COMING OUT OF SHELL
Coming out of the Shell— were organized on 26 Aug 2007, 29 August 2008 and 12 August 2009. True freedom is possible only when we realize our responsibility towards our motherland. Participants in these workshops were inspired to leave their comfort zones and convert “Sab chalta hai attitude into chak de India”. At the end of the session, they took an oath to direct all their potential & energies for the development of their personality, society and country.
ROAD SAFETY WORKSHOP
A Road Safety Workshop was organized at GGDSD College on 5 February 2009 in collaboration with the Chandigarh Traffic Police. The workshop commenced with a talk on road safety by Sh. Desraj, in which he enunciated various road safety tips and elaborated the meaning of different road signs. Besides stressing on the need to wear helmets, especially amongst women, he highlighted the need to carry an authentic driving license and a proper number plate on vehicles. The staff of the Chandigarh Traffic Police also put up an exhibition through which they tried to create awareness regarding the various measures they can be adopted to be safe on the roads. Sh. H. S. Doon, IPS, SP, Traffic & Security UT Chandigarh was the Key Speaker on this occasion. In his inspiring address he called upon the participants to come up with innovative ideas to spread public awareness on the road safety. Various contests on the theme of road safety were organized in which around 100 students participated.
The competitions like “Sticker Designing”, “Road Safety Written Quiz” & “Ideas Generation Drive” received an overwhelming response. Rohini Tuli through a motivational Power point Presentation emphasized the urgency for all of us to be law-abiding citizens. Volunteers of AAVAHAN also staged a skit to emphasize the hazards and dangers of not obeying the traffic rules on this occasion.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
A five day workshop on “women empowerment” was organized from 22 Sep – 26th Sep. 2008. It was organized for the trainees of Mrs. Kaushaliya Devi Verma charitable institute run by G.G.D.S.D College, Chandigarh for the women from the weaker sections of the society. Topics like Valuing Womanhood, Money Matters, Health & Hygiene, Food & Nutrition and Communication skills were discussed. Experts from the concerned fields enlightened the participants by giving them tips to lead happy and healthy lives. Interactions with the resource persons helped them to get their queries addressed. Nearly 70 women attended this workshop. Many competitions like stitching, embroidery, computer working, mehandi and hairstyling were also organized during the workshop. Mr. Pradeep Chhabra was the Guest of Honors on the valedictory function of this workshop.—pics of workshop
